Thanks for the advice, Jessica! I will definitely look into it.

We asked him last night about the handwriting – and told him we’ve noticed, if we make him write in cursive, he does it pretty neatly, but that printing is so messy. I asked if it was just too much to focus on that, or if he was just not working at it. I was surprised he said he could print better – he just wasn’t. I really expected that he would say it’s just hard, but he didn’t.

So – the teacher is looking into ADHD accomodations at school, and we’ll wait to see what happens there. I’d love to find a therapist or tutor who can help him out with this though, because really – I don’t know how he’ll ever hold down a job that doesn’t involve making french fries if he doesn’t get this worked out!

Look into Alphabetic Phonics – a tutor who teaches it specifically. It’s a proven, comprehensive program to remediate dyslexia and dysgraphia. It uses cursive and is multisensory. If it’s dysgraphia, it can’t be cured – only treated – and then only with professional help. Accommodations can help, but the therapy can literally save lives. Good luck.
